Small smart dwelling

Project 03: Small smart dwelling

Small dwelling is designed for a client named Suma Malik(62), a Yoga teacher. She loves to grow herbs. This space will be used for her living and teaching Yoga. It is located in the front yard of Blackfriars. SL has decided to leave the site as it used to be because the surrounding buildings seem perfectly cover the building from unnecessary elements. This building looks like a cube with wide windows on the ground floor and few windows on the first floor: it is intended that the ground floor represents the void as a public space while the first floor represents the solid as a private space. On the ground floor, the door and windows are near the grass field so that people can get easy access to the building aside from the door. On the first floor, there is a window on the wall and a skylight on the roof, which is arranged to get more sunlight for the herb. Moreover, the overall plan of the first floor is the rearrangement of the previous bedroom model by dividing its plan into four puzzle pieces. On the roof, it has skylights which show the locations of voids in this building. The skylight in the middle makes the light comes down directly to Suma’s location so that students would focus more on Suma.
