Trace/Place

The concept of this project is “trace/place” with time. The role of the moat has been affected by various people and elements as time goes by. Therefore, SL tries to return the moat to everyone by establishing a new small contemporary architecture. It has a free-form design similar to the moat’s topography line with new material. When people sit on the platform while gazing at the Black Gate, they can feel the flow of time between the Black Gate and the new platform.

SL introduced the Voronoi-like pattern for the first time. During this design work, SL was dominated by two objects or words: Trace/Place, Past/Future, Black Gate/Sage Gateshead and Roman/Norman Foster.

PS, SL did have experience making a digital model from his sketch for the first time. Self-learning is not quite comfortable, but it can be valuable.
