Project08: Residential building

Interstitial space is normally the space which is located between regularly used spaces in the building, and it is usually used as the space to put the mechanical and/or electrical systems. SL interpreted the original idea of interstitial space as the street block being filled with the new building, like how the mechanical and electrical system is installed between the floors. So, SL is working on designing the residential space for the interstitial space on Wellington Street. It is designed as the residential space, named “third street”, available for those with a job in the city block near Wellington Street, such as a hotel, office, restaurant, opera house, and university accommodation. The entire design process is renovating a narrow space that has been used as a passage for a long time. Renovation proceeded with analysing the history and environment of the site. In particular, a research is focused on the way how sunlight affects the site and new building.
