Commoning

The main concept of this design project is about creating an urban common space that will provide a change to the Wallsend. SL felt that this project is an interesting subject. However, it is also intriguing since it involves designing the urban common space for the public, closely related to diversity. During the design process, SL has a question: “What is the commoning in architecture?” SL keeps trying to find the answer and finds out that it requires understanding diverse issues such as history, lifestyle, environment, development, and people. Moreover, there are also various definitions of commoning. So, SL tried to find the commoning for Wallsend with not only the idealisation but also the social activities and history of Wallsend, which is the primary function of the new community centre named FRAME. Therefore, SL focused on designing the space for the people’s activities in the Wallsend community to increase social gatherings and improve the social economy.
